Martin Area Band

Band News:
A huge congratulations to our grade 6, 7, & 8 band students who performed at the Downtowner’s Optimist Band Festival on March 22nd and 23rd. Our two concert bands and jazz band gave excellent performances and had the opportunity to work with some of Canada’s top band clinicians. A reminder to any students who have still not brought their $7 entrance fee for the festival to please submit this as soon as possible. Our grade 6 students have their next performance on May 9th, and our grade 7/8 students have their next performance and trip on May 16th. Stay tuned for information on these two dates. The date of the final band concert is May 25th so please mark your calendars!

Uniform shirts for Grade 6 Band students and new band students:

All uniform shirts have been ordered for new band students.  Notes and emails have been sent home with information about cost, etc. We will hand out shirts to students prior to our Winter Concert in December.  If your child didn’t get sized and needs a shirt, please have them see us at full band or sectionals and we can add them to the order.

Winter Concert:  Our winter band concert this year will be held on December 6, 7:00pm, in the Martin Auditorium.  This concert will feature our elementary groups as well as our high school concert band and choir.  Students should arrive at 6:30 in uniform (red t-shirts, black pants/skirt, black shoes).  We will also be holding our annual bake sale in the front lobby.  As in the past, we would appreciate if families could bring one dozen of their favorite baking (nut free).  More information will be sent home as we approach the concert date!

Don’t forget to visit our band website for more information about upcoming events:

BAND:  Our year is off to a great start with 140 students registered in our Martin Area Band program!  Both the Grade 6 and the 7/8 groups are well under way with full band rehearsals and sectionals.  It’s early in the year, but we are already hearing some wonderful sounds happening!

We will be sending information home through e-mail, school newsletters, notes to students, and something new – our website/blog for Martin Area Bands –  Please visit the site to stay connected with valuable information and upcoming events in our program.

Our jazz program will be starting on October 8, and is open to all Grade 7 and 8 band students.  The jazz rehearsal will be held every Day 2 (after full band) at Martin Collegiate from 3:30-5:00.  Students will need a ride home at 5pm. Notes/permission forms have been sent home with students  interested in coming out.

Please feel free to contact any of us with questions or feedback.  We’re looking forward to a wonderful year with these young musicians!
