Fire Safety and Emergency Procedures

We have a brand new emergency fire alarm system that is equipped with state of the art alarms and emergency lighting.  When the fire alarm goes off, it is critical that we evacuate the building.  The alarm alerts the fire department who dispatch trucks to investigate the cause of the alarm and fight the fire if required.

Students must evacuate the building and attendance is taken to ensure all students and staff are accounted for.  In the event that we may need to be outside for any extended period of time, we will relocate to Martin Collegiate.  For this reason, it is critical that all students have shoes to be worn inside the school.  If an alarm goes off, there is not time to gather belongings, put on coats and shoes etc.  Our first response is to evacuate and ensure everyone is safely out of the building.

We practice our evacuation throughout the year but, sometimes the fire alarm goes off and we must respond accordingly regardless of the weather.

Thank you for ensuring your students have shoes at school and for reminding your children of the importance of fire safety and evacuation procedures.  It is always a good idea to practice evacuations at home as well and to check and make sure your home fire/smoke alarms are in good working order.

Thank you so much!
